Basic guidelines to follow in Gym/Arena/Fitness-Studio(s):

-
Put your weights back.
-
Keep the equipment where it belongs- Have you ever walked into the weights area of a gym only to see a sit-up bench blocking the dumbbells? That’s a big no no. To wit: Don’t drag a bench onto the deadlift platform Don’t leave plyometric boxes in the squat racks. Don’t try to deadlift in front of the dumbbell racks. Don’t try to do any weightlifting movements anywhere except the deadlift platforms or another designated area.
-
Be mindful of your surroundings.
Gyms can be dangerous places if you’re not alert. On busy times of day in particular, you have to be super-mindful of the other patrons; don’t start doing dumbbell kickbacks without checking behind you, for example. Also, sometimes poorly laid out gyms have machines with their plate-loaded arms swinging out into a thoroughfare and if you’re not looking where you’re going, you might be in for a headache.
If you want to be a real champion, look out for your fellow gym-goers and help them out if you see them struggling; maybe offer to spot them. -
Bring a towel. Use it.
Gyms can be some of the most germ-ridden places you can go. One study found that 63 per cent of gym equipment showed the presence of rhinovirus (which causes the common cold), with weight training equipment more affected than cardio machines. Viruses love nonporous surfaces such as steel weights in particular. So, for both your own sake and the sake of other patrons, use that towel. -
Clean up after yourself (and, if you have to, other patrons).
Related to the previous point, if you still manage to sweat through your towel or for some other reason leave sweat on a piece of equipment, grab some paper towel and disinfectant spray (hopefully your gym has some around — if not, hassle them about it) to do your fellow gym-goers a solid. And if you happen to approach a bench of piece of equipment that has some gross droplets of on it already, it won’t kill you to wipe them up yourself. (Though, shame on that other gym rat for being so disgusting.) -
Selfies: Try to be discreet about them.
Look, we know you want to take them and you should be able to. If nothing else, they’re a good way to track your progress. But there are limits. Keep it to the change rooms or on less busy days when you’re not getting in the way of other patrons. The general rule of thumb here is: do what you want — just don’t infringe on anyone else’s gym experience. -
Personal space: respect it.
Can’t get to a bench on Monday night? Too bad. Don’t stand 20 cm away from the person who has one, ready to pounce. Aside from being dangerous for both you and the other person, we all know it’s not the most comfortable feeling to try and blast out some biceps curls while there’s a guy less than a meter away attempting power cleans. -
Don’t hog the equipment.
While this is obviously subject to the time of day, staying at one station for half an hour when other people want to use it is not on. If you’re occupying a popular piece of equipment at a popular time of day, don’t sit there on your phone checking Instagram, oblivious to the waiting queue. Everybody needs to squat — don’t monopolies the rack if it’s 6.00PM on a Thursday night. -
Avoid the chitchat.
The gym is a place of solace for many people and, although it can be a great social setting, try to keep the gossip to a minimum. If you run into a gym mate or someone you know, don’t stand around chin-wagging all through someone else’s session.
And, of course, if someone is wearing headphones, it probably means they don’t want to be disturbed.

Guidelines for Gym/Arena/Fitness-Studio(s)
Ayakshm is a great way for Gym/Arena/Fitness-Studio(s) to reach out to a vast fitness community. A few things you should keep in mind:
-
Keep your listing updated: While our team makes every effort to keep information on Ayakshm up to date, we appreciate you letting us know when an update is required. If your timings change and your listing is not updated, clients arriving late won't be too happy with you (or Ayakshm).
-
Don't solicit reviews: The best way to get reviews is to treat clients with your best service. Selective solicitation is a strict NO and offering any type of compensation or kick-back for reviews is unfair, so you want to keep away from that, too.
-
Don’t ever offer freebies, discounts, or payment in exchange for reviews/ratings
-
Don't offer incentives for users to remove reviews/ratings
-
Don’t ask your staff to compete to collect reviews/ratings
-
Don’t work with companies or third-party vendors/PR agencies offering to 'fix your reviews/ratings'
-
The businesses that do best on Ayakshm are the ones that provide a great customer experience to everyone who walks in the door without any expectation or encouragement that they write a positive review/rating.
-
If we do come across any evidence (direct/indirect) of you indulging in solicitation, we will activate a disclaimer on your Gym/Arena/Fitness-Studio(s)'s page, informing the Ayakshm community that your reviews/ratings are suspicious.
-
Respond to criticism positively: Take two deep breaths when you get a negative review/rating or by any other mode of communication. Four, if required. This happens to all Gym/Arena/Fitness-Studio(s) who have clients. These clients are always right, even when they are wrong. Take the unflattering reviews/rating as constructive feedback and use it as an opportunity to fix things. Whether you agree with the feedback or not, take the criticism in good stride. You can reply with a management response to show you care, but please don't use this as a platform to hit back or offer the customer an incentive to edit their review.
-
Be accountable: This business requires thick skin-stating the perceived attitude of owners or employees and reporting of individual actions are not considered personal attacks.
-
Don't entertain: Fulfilling the demands of clients who ask for benefits at the threat of bad reviews or ratings, sends a message that this behaviour is tolerated. Similarly, inviting users who have reviewed and given a low rating back to the Gym/Arena/Fitness-Studio(s) for a complimentary meal, invites false negative reviews. These issues affect the entire community and require everyone's participation to curb their prevalence. Please report users who engage in such activities to help.ayakshm@gmail.com.
-
In a concerted effort to maintain the neutrality of content on Ayakshm, Gym/Arena/Fitness-Studio(s) owners, employees, and any affiliates with business interests are no longer permitted to write reviews/ratings on Ayakshm. We understand that being in the Gym/Arena/Fitness-Studio(s) industry, you are truly passionate about Fitness, and would love to share your experiences. But when you're unavoidably invested in your business, it becomes hard to leave emotions (and bias) at the door. This is a step towards maintaining neutrality and quality of the content on Ayakshm.
It's also important to note that we (Ayakshm) have no employees or affiliates who are paid to review. If any guest identifies themselves as an official blogger, review employee, or associate of Ayakshm, it's not true. Employees of Ayakshm are contractually and ethically forbidden from using their status to solicit free slots or receive special treatment. If you observe any such practice, report it to help.ayakshm@gmail.com. Appropriate action will be taken against the user or employee if evidence can be provided.
